Effective risk financing solutions must be based on reliable data and analysis. At CERES, we place great emphasis on developing cutting-edge models and analytics to inform the design and implementation of risk financing strategies, including insurance. Based on actuarial models, we take a quantitative approach to evaluate the impact of natural disasters such as droughts and floods on agriculture sectors, for example on crop yields and livestock holdings. For this, we always strive to use the most best data available, including for example from ground-truthed, remotely sensed, and composite sources.
Exemplary CERES outputs: Probabilistic agricultural yield models; financial models estimating frequency and severity of yield losses due to natural disasters; financial cost-benefit analysis; development of appropriate climate-data indices for agricultural risk financing schemes.
